If you’re driving anywhere near South Carolina, and need to fill up the tank, it’ll likely be worth the time and effort to find your way to Georgetown.
Paul Newman, who died Friday at age 83,
was an avid auto racing enthusiast. He first became interested in
motorsports ("the first thing that I ever found I had any grace in")
while training for and filming Winning, a 1969 film. Newman's first
professional event was in 1972, in Thompson, Conn., and he was a common
competitor in Sports Car Club of America events for the rest of the
decade, eventually winning several championships.
Sen. John McCain has taken a fair share of criticism for first saying he didn’t know how many houses he owns but later revealing he has seven. Now, according to several media accounts, Newsweek to ABC Online, the Republican candidate for President and his wife owns 13 cars. The Newsweek report detailed the only vehicle registered McCain’s name is a Cadillac. But numerous other vehicles, including three bubble-shaped cars, called GEM's, a Honda sedan and a Volkswagen convertible are registered in Cindy McCain's name.

General Motors is celebrating its centennial anniversary by unveiling the production version of its Chevy Volt, a plug-in electric vehicle set to launch in 2010. During its 100th anniversary celebrations, GM executives focused on future plans rather than the company’s past. Throughout the next few decades, General Motors CEO Rick Wagoner says the company plans to find new alternative fuels to assist decreased dependency on oil.

Zero Pollution Motors, a New York-based company, could be onto something — a new six-seat car that runs on compressed air. According to media reports, the concept car is based on the technology developed in 1991 by a French inventor and former race car driver for the European-based MDI. Zero Pollution Motors is the first company to obtain a license from MDI to produce the vehicles. It says it plans to offer its first models in 2010 and with a price of less than $18,000.
After much anticipation, earlier this year BMW introduced to the United States its 128 series. It’s the German
manufacturer’s reasonably priced coupe and convertible, and it couldn’t
have been introduced at a better time. From my weekly drive with the
128i convertible and its 3.0-liter, 230-horsepower inline six-cylinder
engine,
the car is an unqualified success. Videographer Bruce Aldrich and I
present another in the continuing series of TheWeeklyDriver.com new car video reviews.
