The Tata Nano car has been touted as the world's cheapest automobile. But it appears pending buyers in India want frills when buying the uber economy car.

According to a report in Bloomberg News, only 20 percent of the initial reservation total of 203,000 cars is for the no-frills version of the Tata Nano.

Depending on the conversion of the rupee, the Indian currency, the basic Nano will sell for about $2,500. But about half of the new orders are for the new offering from Tata Motors are for the high-end model of the car. It costs about 40 percent more than the base model.

The cheapest Tata Nano
retails for 123,360 rupees in New Delhi, while the top-end Nano will sell for 172,360 rupees.

The top-end model of the Nano includes air conditioning, fabric seats, central locking, front power windows and cup holders, all features considered standard on most new cars around the world.

Tata Motors will begin delivery of the Nano in July via a lottery.
