As part of Monterey Auto Week, Winfrey has chosen to sell her 1954 Mercedes-Benz Gullwing (originally owned by the DuPont family) 1988 Rolls-Royce Corniche II Convertible (given to Winfrey by her long-time friend and actor, John Travolta) and 1997 Aston Martin DB7 Volante.

Oprah Winfrey’s vast charitable interests are likely to reap sizable benefits in August when three of her classic automobiles are auctioned at the Gooding & Company’s Pebble Beach auctions.

The sale of the vehicles, scheduled August 16-17 at 6 p.m in Monterey, will benefit the annual Arts and Culture Workshop at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa.

More than 130 cars are expected to be auctioned this year by Gooding & Company, the official auction house of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

Winfrey’s announcement adds to the auction’s substantial charitable outreach.

The Dr. Peter and Susan Williamson Collection, the world’s finest collection of Bugattis, will also be sold at Gooding & Company’s Pebble Beach auction.

The collection of 12 Bugattis include:

* 1937 Bugatti Type 57SC Atalante Coupe —  the most prestigious car in the collection, this car is a striking two-toned color known as London Fog and is one of the most coveted cars of its time because of its groundbreaking design.

* 1928 Bugatti Type 35B Grand Prix — the powerful, supercharged engine in this car set new standards for performance in the industry at the time it was built.

* 1931 Bugatti Type 55 “Jean Bugatti Roadster” — one of the most important and memorable of Bugatti sports cars, it was the first of its kind.

The sale of the 12 Bugattis is expected to raise more than $15 million, with the majority of the proceeds from the sale donated to the Dartmouth Medical School.

Among other significant cars consigned by Gooding & Company are the legendary 1959 Ferrari 250 GT ‘California’ Spider, the acclaimed 1934 Triumph Dolomite 8C 2400 Super-Charged Grand Sport, the rare 1938 ‘Sleeping Beauty’ Alfa Romeo 6C and the original 1914 Stutz Series E Bearcat.

Gooding & Company’s collection of Pebble Beach auction cars will be on display and open to the public on Wednesday, August 13-17. Gooding & Company Pebble Beach auction catalogs are available for $100 and admit two to the viewing and the auction.

General admission to the viewing and the auction can be purchased at the tent for the price of $40 per person. Bidder registration forms, press credentials and additional auction information are available on www.goodingco.com
